Lugdunum, or Lyon today, was the site of a pretty big battle in 197 AD. Septimius Severus and Clodius Albinus went from being pals to enemies in a clash that Cassius Dio claims involved around 300,000 soldiers. That's a lot, but the exact numbers are kind of debated. Still, it's marked as one of the bloodiest confrontations in Roman history.
