‘A Needy, Dishonest Ufologist’: Was Rendelsham A UFO Prank?
As 2019 rolled in, I watched with some amusement as my Facebook feed was filled with posts about the latest incident in the saga that is the Rendelsham Forest UFO case. For those who aren’t familiar with the case, it involved a series of strang

  • Nick Pope continues to make headlines with his claims about Dr. David Clarke. In a recent back-and-forth, Pope labeled Clarke as a "needy, dishonest ufologist." Apparently, he couldn't even back up his serious allegations of plagiarism. It seems the accusations are based more on hearsay than actual evidence. Clarke has done extensive work on UFO files, yet Pope insists on undermining him. It’s all a bit dull, honestly. Maybe Pope should reconsider his approach, as it doesn’t really paint him in a good light. Just another day in the ufology world, I guess.

  • Last Thursday, we had a little gathering at BUFOG. John Blackburn showed up to chat about some paranormal stuff. I guess it was meant to be intriguing or whatever. He tried some practical demonstrations, which I suppose were supposed to add to the excitement of the evening. Honestly, it was just another night filled with discussions about UFOs and the paranormal, nothing too groundbreaking.

It’s nice to branch out sometimes, they say. We did that. We talked about how paranormal topics might overlap with ufology. It’s interesting enough, I guess, but I couldn’t shake off that feeling of monotony. The same theories, the same questions. I mean, how many times can we discuss the same things before it all starts to blur together?

I won’t say I wasn’t paying attention, but I definitely felt a bit of a drag in the air. Maybe it’s just the usual vibe of these events, or maybe it was just me feeling a bit lazy that day. I tried to look engaged, but the allure just wasn’t there. Everyone else seemed to be into it, nodding and asking questions, but I was just sitting there, waiting for it to wrap up so I could go home and relax.

In theory, the intersection of paranormal activities and ufology could lead to some fascinating discussions. But in practice? It often just feels like we’re retracing old steps rather than forging new paths. This is not to say that it wasn’t worth attending. There were some decent points made, and I suppose it’s good to hear from different perspectives. But the whole vibe felt a bit off—like we were just going through the motions.

So, yeah, that was Thursday. Another evening spent diving into the same old themes, trying to convince ourselves it’s all super exciting. Some people might find that thrilling, but for me, it was just another day on the calendar. I guess that’s how it goes sometimes.
