Aztec human sacrifice was just part of their whole religious deal. They thought it was necessary to appease the gods, like, to keep the sun shining or whatever. Temples were the go-to places for these rituals, especially Templo Mayor. They believed that giving up human lives would bring them good harvests and victories. Seems pretty intense for a society just trying to keep things running smoothly. It’s hard to imagine that this was seen as a spiritual exchange rather than just plain brutality.
