Metallic Realms by Lincoln Michel is a glaring example of how literature can fall flat on its face while trying to juggle a so-called "love-hate relationship." The review by Paul Di Filippo is a perfect case of passive-aggressive pandering, where the complexities of savage love are romanticized to the point of absurdity. Instead of diving deep into the actual substance of the book, we get a muddled mess of clichés wrapped in flowery language.
